Cells fulfill their functions by obtaining various information from the external environment and show responses such as changes in motility and metabolism. Especially in single-celled organisms, responses to the environment determine survival. This laboratory, use unicellular organisms, to study how cells sense forces (mechanical stimuli) and temperature, and how the information they perceive is reflected in motility. The study on the molecules (ion channels), cellular organelles (cilia), and phenomena (salt tolerance) involved in these responses is directly related to medicine and agriculture.
